Why is an elopement timeline important?

Less stress

Having a detailed timeline is like having a helpful guide to keep everything on track, whether you’re eloping to a beautiful destination or having a cozy, intimate ceremony. It’s all about staying organized and keeping stress to a minimum to ensure your wedding day goes off without a hitch!

Time management

By planning each activity, you can prevent unnecessary delays or last-minute rushes. This is super important if you need more time at your chosen location or working with service providers who have specific timeframes.

Better coordination

Another great thing about having an elopement timeline is that it allows you to stay in sync and collaborate with everyone involved in your wedding. Whether it’s your elopement photographer, officiant, or any other vendor, sharing the timeline with them ensures everyone is on the same page. This way, you can work together smoothly and make sure that each person knows where and when they need to be.

How to create an elopement timeline?

When planning your elopement, it’s super important to think about the ceremony location and travel time. First, choose a beautiful spot for your vows, like a mountain peak, a beach, a forest, you name it. Consider how far it is from your accommodation and any transportation needed to get there.

Next up, make sure to schedule enough time for hair and makeup. You want to look your absolute best on your special day, especially if you’ve hired professional stylists.

After you’re all dolled up, it’s time for some getting-ready photos. These are a great way to capture the excitement and emotions of your elopement day. You’ll want shots of you and your partner getting dressed, putting on accessories, and sharing sweet moments with loved ones.

When thinking about the ceremony, remember to check the weather, think about the lighting, and consider any rules from the venue. It’s a good idea to plan your elopement ceremony for early morning or late afternoon to make the most of the natural lighting.

Why not plan a lovely picnic or fun activities after the ceremony? A picnic is a great way to relax and enjoy each other’s company. You could also take a stroll through a park or explore local attractions together, capturing some precious photos along the way.

A few tips to help you plan your elopement

Examples of timeline

– 12:00 PM – Let’s Get Ready! It’s time to get glammed up with hair, makeup, and those final outfit touches. As you both get ready, I’ll capture some lovely photos of the details, like your rings and vows.
– 12:30 PM – First Look We’ll find a scenic spot near your accommodation or take a short walk to have that special first-look moment just for the two of you before the ceremony. This will be a private and magical moment.
– 1:00 PM – Off to the Ceremony Location We’ll travel to your chosen ceremony spot. Depending on the location, drive times can range from 15 minutes to an hour, so we’ll adjust the timeline accordingly.
– 1:45 PM – Ceremony Time It’s time for your intimate ceremony with an officiant or a symbolic exchange of vows. Norway’s natural settings will make this experience truly magical, especially with fjords or towering cliffs in the background.
– 2:15 PM – Let’s Capture Some Memories After the ceremony, we’ll spend some time taking photos at the beautiful ceremony location. We can also include some candid shots of you celebrating with champagne or just soaking in the special moment together.
– 2:45 PM – Let’s Go on an Adventure! We’ll head to a nearby iconic spot for more adventure photos. This might involve hiking to a new location or exploring different scenic viewpoints. We’ll take 1-1.5 hours to explore, making the most of Norway’s dramatic landscapes.
– 4:00 PM – Time for a Private Picnic or Small Celebration It’s time to enjoy a small celebration, whether it’s at a restaurant or a lovely picnic setting.
– 4:45 PM – Capture the Golden Hour Depending on the time of year, we’ll make sure to capture the magical golden hour. In the summer, the golden hour can extend for several hours with soft, dreamy light, while in winter, you may get a magical sunset or twilight effect earlier in the day.
– 5:30 PM – Reflect on Your wedding Day End your day with a moment to reflect on your elopement. This can be an intimate time to relax, write in a shared journal, or enjoy the beauty of your surroundings.

– 7:00 AM – Let’s Get Ready Time to get dolled up! Hair, makeup, and getting into your final outfits. I’ll capture those intimate moments of both of you getting ready, whether together or separately. Pro tip: Consider hiring a makeup artist who knows how to handle Iceland’s weather (wind and rain-proof makeup).
– 8:00 AM – First Look Get ready for a magical first look at a scenic spot near your accommodation. This is the perfect moment for some stunning photos!
– 8:30 AM – Off to the Ceremony Location Hop in the car and head to your chosen ceremony spot. Remember, roads in Iceland can be slow, so plan for travel time, especially in winter or on rough terrain.
– 9:30 AM – Ceremony Time It’s time for your intimate ceremony with an officiant. You can also include any personal traditions or readings that are meaningful to you. The ceremony usually lasts 20-45 minutes.
– 10:15 AM – Snap Some Post-Ceremony Photos Capture more couple portraits and group shots (if you have guests) at the ceremony location.
– 11:15 AM – Let’s Go on an Adventure (Optional Hiking or Exploration) Explore another gorgeous site nearby and spend 1.5-2 hours enjoying the scenery and capturing incredible shots.
– 1:15 PM – Time for a Lunch Break Pack a picnic to enjoy at a scenic viewpoint or grab lunch at a cozy Icelandic restaurant or café along your route.
– 2:00 PM – More Exploration & Couple Photos Take the time to explore different landscapes for more photo opportunities. This will take about 1-2 hours.
– 4:00 PM – Golden Hour Photos Enjoy Iceland’s long daylight hours in summer for some beautiful soft light. If it’s winter, sunset comes earlier, so we’ll adjust this part based on the season.
– 5:30 PM – Private Dinner Celebration Whether it’s an intimate meal in a restaurant or a private dinner at your accommodation, take time to celebrate your marriage.
– 7:00 PM – Wind Down/Northern Lights Watching (Optional) If you’re visiting between September and April, you might have a chance to witness the Northern Lights. How magical would that be?
– 7:30 PM – Relaxation or Hot Springs Soak (Optional) End your day with a relaxing dip in a natural hot spring like Seljavallalaug or Secret Lagoon. Just the two of you, reflecting on your special day and taking in the serenity of Iceland.

What if the weather is very bad?

Weather plays a significant role in your special day, and sometimes, those surprise conditions can create the most magical memories! As we approach your elopement, we’ll be closely monitoring the weather forecast. That way, we can stay one step ahead and make any necessary adjustments to our plans.
A little light rain, fog, or overcast skies can add a beautiful, romantic touch to your photos! But if the weather decides to go wild with heavy storms, strong winds, or downpours, no worries at all—we’ll adapt! Whether that means adjusting the ceremony time, revising the timeline, or finding a cozy backup location, we’ll ensure your day is perfect, no matter what the weather brings.
